Rising Fuel Prices in Russia Increase Costs for Freight Carriers
The rising cost of gasoline and diesel fuel, along with fuel purchase restrictions at some gas stations, is having an increasingly noticeable impact on transportation and logistics companies. According to Russia's Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), fuel prices have increased by 6.61% for gasoline and 5.69% for diesel since the beginning of 2026.For logistics operators, even a modest increase in fuel prices leads to significant operating cost growth. With hundreds of daily trips, the additional expense per kilometer quickly becomes a substantial financial burden.
In addition to higher prices, carriers are facing fuel dispensing limits at gas stations. In several regions, restrictions have been introduced on the amount of fuel that can be purchased in a single visit. As a result, transport companies are forced to adjust routes, schedule additional refueling stops, and consider fuel station availability when planning logistics operations.
These restrictions are particularly challenging for heavy-duty freight transport. Limited fuel availability requires truck drivers to refuel more frequently and, in some cases, change their usual routes. This increases delivery times, non-productive mileage, and overall operating costs.
According to industry experts, the most difficult situation is currently observed in Crimea, southern Russia, and several regions of the Central Federal District. In response, transportation companies are strengthening fuel consumption monitoring, optimizing refueling schedules, improving vehicle utilization, and expanding cooperation with multiple fuel suppliers.
Rising fuel prices and ongoing supply restrictions are becoming additional cost factors that carriers must take into account when setting freight rates. As a result, logistics services are gradually becoming more expensive, ultimately contributing to higher prices for end consumers.
To adapt to these challenges, logistics companies are focusing on improving route efficiency, optimizing fleet utilization, and enhancing operational planning.
